South Florida engineers from Syntheon, a medical device manufacturer and developer, are showcasing local aerospace talent by participating in a national rocket launch contest.
The Carmack 100kft Micro Prize contest challenges teams to build the first civilian rocket that can exceed 100,000 feet above the launch altitude, provide a GPS log of the flight and be recovered intact within 24 hours.
The 15-member South Florida team, lead by Derek Deville of Syntheon, has designed QU8K, a 150-pound, eight-foot-tall rocket motor that, if successful, will reach up to 150,000 feet, or 30 miles into the atmosphere, said Greg Mayback, a team member and partner with Mayback & Hoffman, the official QU8K sponsor. The rocket will also travel faster than an M16 bullet.

QU8K is set to launch this weekend in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert.
他们估计最大飞行高度为48km(30miles),几乎是平流层(同温层)的顶部。但还不算脱离大气层。高空气球能到35km以上。
速度说是比m16子_弹速度快,估计在1000m/s以上,但不会多太多。第一宇宙速度为7.9km/s。
虽说摩擦会生热,但视频里能明显看到在飞行后半段有个摄像机镜头上结冰了。摩擦温度最高的应该在头部,机身上摩擦以及温度有多高不知道,至少降落之后能看到火箭上的油漆都还完好。
他们做这个火箭很大一部分目的是为了录像,火箭上最大的有效载重估计也就是那一套摄像机了。火箭到顶之后会打开降落伞,着陆之后人再取出摄像机读取视频,不是实时传回来的。 |
