those figures are for embedded programmers for mostly industrial controls. for consumer grade products, they will make less.
the essence of the story is this: the market is moving rapidly to 32-bit chips, at least in the US. if you code 32-bit chips (ARM in particular), you will make a lot of money fairly easily. if you are coding 8-bit chips, you will struggle, as the 8-bit market has been outsourced, both at the device level and at the product level, to China.
I would imagine a similar trend will take place in China, maybe in a few years. so any 8-bit embedded programmer should be seriously considering upgrading his/her knowledge. |
